ANZAC Day Shop Trading Hours
Trading Restrictions on Anzac Day
According to the Shop Trading Hours Act 1990, most shops in Australia are required to remain closed on Anzac Day until 1 pm. This restriction applies to a majority of businesses, except for certain exempted categories such as:
Exempted Shops
- Service stations
- Pharmacies
- Convenience stores
- Newsagents
- Restaurants and cafes (for dine-in service only)
Alcohol Sales
Between 10 am and 1 pm on Anzac Day, licensed venues are permitted to sell or supply alcohol, but only if it is accompanied by a substantial meal.
Limited Days of Closure
The Shop Trading Hours Act 1990 mandates shop closures on only 3½ days per year, one of which is Anzac Day. The other restricted days include:
- Good Friday
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Day
These restrictions ensure that people can observe the significance of Anzac Day and pay their respects to fallen soldiers without being distracted by commercial activities.
